Why does skin get irritated?

Skin irritations—redness, tingling, tightness—don't just appear out of nowhere. They occur when several skin systems simultaneously malfunction: the protective barrier, immune cells, nerves, and even the microbes living on the surface.

🌧️ 1. When the protective barrier cracks

The skin has a kind of protective wall made of cells and lipids. When this wall is damaged, everything passes through more easily: cold, pollution, irritating products.

  • The "cement" between cells becomes less solid.
  • The skin loses more water than it retains.
  • The pH changes, making it more sensitive.

Result: the skin becomes dry, fragile, and reacts to things that were not a problem before.

As soon as the barrier is weakened, the skin goes into alert mode.

  • This causes redness, heat, and discomfort.
